A 20 year old driver from Hull who hit speeds in excess of 100mph after refusing to stop for police has been jailed for 14 months.

Liam Slade of Bilsdale Grove appeared at Hull Crown Court yesterday where he was convicted of dangerous driving, possession of a bladed article and driving without insurance.

He was sentenced to 14 months in prison and disqualified from driving for 43 months.

At around 3pm on Wednesday 28 February 2024 police officers were driving behind a BMW 1 Series on the A1079 near Newbald when they requested the vehicle to stop.

The driver of the vehicle refused to do so, instead driving dangerously at speeds in excess of 100mph from near to Newbald in the East Riding of Yorkshire to Bricknell Avenue in Hull.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop and a number of men got out, running away from officers. Five men were arrested a short time later and as part of our enquiries Slade was identified as the driver.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Daniel Radford said: “Slade ignored the instruction of officers to stop, instead choosing to drive dangerously over a considerable distance at a busy time of day when people were out and about conducting their daily business.

“This blatant disregard for the safety of other road users, pedestrians and his passengers highlights the extent of his dangerous behaviour, and I am reassured that he is facing time behind bars for his crimes.

“I hope this sends a clear message to others, if you put the lives of others at risk through dangerous driving, we will catch up with you and we will put you before the courts.”
