39th person jailed in connection with Hull city centre disorder
Humberside Police says it remains committed to holding every person accountable

A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison, becoming the 39th person jailed for their role in the violent disorder in Hull City Centre on Saturday 3 August.
Lee Battams, of no fixed abode, admitted to charges of violent disorder, burglary, and attempted burglary and was sentenced yesterday at Hull Magistrates Court.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin said: “This sentencing is yet another demonstration of our commitment to hold every person accountable for the violent disorder that unfolded in Hull City Centre nearly two months ago.
“What began as a peaceful demonstration turned into scenes of sheer violence and criminality. Those involved were intent on acting like thugs, and we remain clear to that there is no place for this abhorrent behaviour and vandalism in our city. It is simply unacceptable and we will not tolerate it.
“To date, the disorder has led to 95 arrests, with The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorising charges for 54, and 39 of these are now serving a combined total of over 72-years in prison. But the work doesn’t stop there.
“We are actively pursuing further lines of enquiry and identification of other offenders from that day is ongoing.
“I hope that this result is a clear warning to anyone who thinks it is okay to commit violence that there is nowhere to hide for anyone involved in the mindless thuggery that day.
“The investigation continues to move forward, with additional arrests and court appearances expected in the coming weeks.
“We will not allow criminals to wreak havoc on our streets, and our message to the people of Hull is clear: we are here to protect our communities.
