Three injured after police pursuit in Leicester

Three people have been injured in a collision following a police pursuit through Leicester.

Several roads have been closed following the incident in the early hours of this morning, which followed reports of vehicle thefts.

Leicestershire Police say the incidents are being linked.

The force issued the following statement:

"Overnight officers received a number of reports of vehicles being broken into in the Hugglescote. Ashby, Donisthorpe, Wigston and Leicester area.

Following an incident on Mount Road in Leicester just after 3.10am officers traced a Seat Exeo in the Red Hill Circle area. The Seat failed to stop for officers and a police pursuit was authorised.

"The Seat travelled along Melton Road in Leicester before it was involved in a collision with a Hyundai Tuscon at the junction with Checketts Road around 3.40am The police vehicle was not involved in the collision.

"The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

"Two people from the Seat were also taken to hospital and are undergoing treatment for injuries not believed to be life threatening.

"Several roads around Melton Road and Checketts Road have been closed to allow officers to carry out a thorough investigation.

"Road closures are in place at the following junctions - Melton Road up to Troon Way, Gipsy Lane up to Catherine Street and Checketts Road up to Loughborough Road.

"Motorists are being advised to seek an alternative route or expect delays.

"The investigation into thefts from vehicles remains ongoing and all of the incidents are being linked."
