Reports of cruelty towards dogs rise across the East Midlands
RSPCA figures show a 15 per cent increase in a year
Concerns are being raised after figures suggested cruelty towards dogs is on the rise in the East Midlands.
Stats from the RSPCA show there were more than 3 thousand 1 hundred reports of it made last year in the region .
That's an increase of 15% on 2022's figures.
We spoke to Chris O'Bren from the charity about the stats.
He told us: "From statistics we know that most dog owners are fantastic owners but what these statistics remind us is that there are people who are not treating their dogs correctly."
"It's a real cause for concern and they highlight the important work of our officers on the frontline each and every day."
"Unfortunately our officers are having to respond to instances of intentional harm - neglect - abandonment and more against dogs in this country."
