Two nurses and a prison custody manager have been charged with offences following the death of an inmate four years ago, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed.

The charges follow the death of Christopher Pearson, 42, at Leeds Prison in September 2021.

In a statement on Friday, the CPS said:

"Three people have been charged in connection with the death of Christopher Pearson at HMP Leeds on September 10 2021.

"Two nurses: Aimee Adam, aged 33, and Merjury Chitadzinga, aged 49; have been charged with careworker neglect while Leanne Hollis, who's 38, a prison custody manager, is charged with misconduct in public office."

Adam, of Worksop, Nottinghamshire; Chitadzinga, of Mexborough, South Yorkshire; and Hollis, of Barnsley, South Yorkshire; will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court, London, on December 9th.

According to the campaign group Inquest, Mr Pearson, who had mental health problems, died from cardiac arrest after a period of restraint by prison officers.
