Driver arrested after pedestrian seriously injured in collision in Leicester
A man in his 50s is in a 'critical' condition in hospital
Police are investigating a collision, involving a pedestrian and a white Range Rover Velar, that occurred in the early hours of yesterday in Belgrave Gate, Leicester.
Detectives are asking for anyone who was in the area to come forward with information or dash cam footage that could assist with the ongoing investigation.
The collision happened around 3.40am as the car was travelling into the city – directly opposite the junction with Orchard Street.
The pedestrian – a man in his 50s – was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The car failed to stop at the scene but following enquiries carried out a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation while the investigation continues.
Detective Constable Emma Mitchell, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are investigating a serious collision in which a man has sustained a serious head injury and is in a critical condition.
“Although this incident occurred in the early hours of the morning – around 3.40am – we know there were people in the area of Belgrave Gate, close to Burleys Flyover, who may have saw the incident or the pedestrian or car before the collision. We are particularly looking to trace the drivers of two cars we believe were directly behind the Range Rover just before the incident occurred.
“We are also keen to access any dash cam footage or CCTV. Given the time the collision occurred there is likely to have been taxis travelling to and from the city who may have captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
