Police in Leicester are investigating the death of a man as murder.

The force say that a man died in Mowmacre Hill in the early hours of this morning.

Just after 12.10am officers on patrol found him lying on the ground in Modbury Avenue, off Red Hill Way. CPR was carried out but he was pronounced dead soon after the East Midlands Ambulance Service arrived.

No arrests have been made at this time and a scene preservation remains in place.

A high police presence remains in the area where the incident occurred, as further enquiries are taking place.

Detective Chief Inspector Tim Lindley, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s (EMSOU) major crime team, is leading the investigation. He said:

“Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of what happened is continuing today and I’d ask anyone who can help us to come forward.

“The area where the man was found and where an assault is believed to have occurred is residential and I’d ask people to check their doorbell and CCTV cameras if they have one.

"I’d also like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has a dashcam in their vehicle.

“In addition, I’d like to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious of unusual either late last night or in the very early hours of this morning.

“Any details you’re able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think they are, could help.”
