Man dies in house fire in Leicester

Police have launched an investigation

An investigation is continuing after a man died in a house fire in the Belgrave area of Leicester.

Officers were called to an address in Checketts Close by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service just before 10.30am on Wednesday (20 August).

The fire was extinguished by the fire service who confirmed a man inside the property had sadly died. No other occupants were injured during the incident.

An investigation involving both police and the fire service to establish the cause of the fire is continuing. Officers are providing support to the man’s family.

Detective Inspector Jo Ranson said: “A scene preservation remains in place while our investigation to understand the circumstances of what happened and provide reassurance to others living in the street.

“If anyone has information that they believe could help our enquiries, I’d encourage you to speak to police at the scene.

“You can also pass on information by calling 101 and quoting incident 183 of 20 August.”
