Police hunt for machete gang after three injured in Leicester
Three people have been injured in Leicester after a group, reportedly with machetes, attacked last night (15 Oct).
Police are hunting for those responsible after three men were injured in Leicester, with reports of a group with machetes running through Leicester.
The gang was seen entering a building on Alexander Street, with armed police being sent at 7:19pm yesterday (15 Oct).
The men were reported to have machetes and were seen running from the building shortly after.
Police received more reports to a stabbing, with paramedics also confirming they were attending someone with stab wounds.
In total, three men attended hospital for treatment with stab wounds. One is in a serious condition, while the other two suffered minor injuries. None of them are thought to be life-threatening.
A number of streets in the immediate vicinity were cordoned off as a search of the area took place. This has since removed although a cordon remains in place at two addresses.
Detective Sergeant Vicki Hudson from the force’s Complex Investigation team, said: “This was fast moving incident which many officers responded to last night in order to locate any other further victims as well as identify the suspects.
“This included the deployment of our police dog and drone.
“Our investigation into this incident has continued overnight and is very much ongoing this morning with our enquiries focusing on piecing together what happened by speaking to the victims, witnesses and accessing CCTV.
“We know that the area is populated largely with student accommodation so there is a strong possibility that there were other witnesses to all or part of this incident who we have not spoken to.
“If you have any information about what happened or the people responsible, I would urge you to get in touch with us if you have not done so.
“I appreciate this incident may cause concern. At this stage, we believe it to be a targeted attack by people known to each other in response to an aggravated burglary which is reported to have happened two weeks ago. Local officers will be in the area over the coming days providing reassurance patrols and can be approached to discuss any concerns you have with them.”
