E-bike fire leaves home in Leicester 'gutted'
The fire is thought to have been caused by an e-bike left charging unattended
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue say an e-bike fire at a home in Leicester has left the property 'gutted'.
They say the fire was likely caused by an e-bike being left unattended whilst on charge.
Nobody was injured in the fire which took place on Strathaven Road near the Melton Road/Troon Way junction yesterday (11th June).
The fire service are asking you to be careful when charging items with lithium-iron batteries, including phones, laptops e-cigarettes and e-bikes.
They ask that these items do not block exists whilst charging, are not left near flammable materials and are not left charging unattended, or overnight while you sleep.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said: "If the battery is extremely hot to the touch, has started to swell or bulge, or starts making any strange noises, stop using it immediately."
When you have finished with the item, they should be disposed of correctly and not thrown into ordinary household waste.
They said this can spark fires in bin lorries and at waste sites.
