Man in his 70s in a critical condition after house fire in Oakwood

A man in his 70s is in a critical condition after a house fire in Oakwood.

Emergency services were called at 23:34 yesterday (23rd Apr) to the blaze which was found in the kitchen of a property on Saffron Drive.

Fire crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire before ventilating the property.

They then secured the property before leaving the scene at 00:20 this morning (24th Apr).

A 72-year-old male was rescued by crews and conveyed to hospital by paramedics.

A joint fire and police investigation is currently underway into the cause of the fire. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
