Properties have been evacuated in Nottingham and Derbyshire after bomb disposal teams were called out in separate incidents yesterday.

A cordon was set up in Bakersfield following the discovery of a 'suspicious item' at a property on Ashworth Close.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal engineers were called to the area and police say a number of people were told to leave their homes as a precaution.

They have since returned.

In a post on Nottinghamshire Police's Facebook page last night, Sergeant Dave Wardle said: “We’d like to thank those residents impacted for their patience and understanding this evening.

“Police will remain at the scene and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.”

Meanwhile, a cordon has also now been lifted following a series of controlled explosions in Horsley Woodhouse yesterday.

Around 50 properties were evacuated around the junctions of Stainsby Avenue and Calladine Lane.

Police say a road was also closed, following concerns around items found at a property in the Derbyshire village.

In a statement, Derbyshire Constabulary said: "The cordon has now been lifted and all displaced residents can return to their homes. We thank you for your patience and understanding whilst this incident was dealt with."

They have stressed there is no risk to the public.

There is currently no information to suggest the two incidents are linked.
