Man charged with murder after fatal stabbing in Newark
A 40-year-old died earlier this week
A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Newark.
40-year-old James Cook was pronounced dead in Castle Gate after he sustained stab wounds during an assault at 1.53pm on Wednesday (30th April).
22-year-old Brandon Byrne was arrested a few hours late.
Byrne of Winston Court in Newark was charged today (2nd May) with Cook's murder.
He remains in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (3 May).
Detective Inspector Craig Hall, who is leading the investigation, said:
“We have been trying to determine the full circumstances around this tragic incident since it happened but can now confirm we’ve charged a suspect.
“As we make this announcement, our thoughts remain with Mr Cook’s family and friends, who are still trying to process this devastating news.
“They are currently being supported by specially trained officers and have requested privacy at this difficult time.
“As our investigation continues, I would like to thank the investigation team, which includes specialists from across to force.
"They have worked around the clock on this investigation to build up a clearer picture of what happened."
