Drivers charged with causing death of woman in Leicester collision

The drivers of two vehicles have been charged with causing the death of a taxi passenger.

Donna Brighton, 60, from Leicester, died after the taxi she was travelling in collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra on the city's Glenfield Road shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday September 16 2023.

Two other passengers in the taxi were also seriously injured.

Leicestershire Police said in a statement on Friday, which confirmed details of those charged: "Thomas Goulty, 34, of Aikman Avenue, Leicester, has been charged with one count of causing death by careless driving and two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving.

"Mohammad Sarwar, 68, of Willow Brook Road, Leicester, has been charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"Both men will appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday."
