A section 35 dispersal order has been put in place in West Leicester following a gathering of people.

Just after 12.30am on Sunday 23 March, police were called to Chelwood Lane, Abbey Ward, following a report of a large gathering at an address. It was reported the crowd was disturbing other residents at the location by causing noise, engaging in anti-social behaviour and disorder in the street.

Officers attended the location, dispersed the crowds.

At 2.27am, a Section 35 dispersal notice was issued for 24 hours, remaining in place until 2.26am Monday 24 March. The area it covers are Chelwood Lane, Ashcott Avenue, Haydon Lane, Upton Gardens and Somerset Avenue.

Sergeant Marc Overton, from the West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), said: "I appreciate some of this behaviour may have gotten out of hand with such a large group of people. We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour within our communities disturbing other residents”

“The dispersal order makes it an offence to remain in the boundary of the order if an officer asks you to leave.

“While no arrests were made in this instance, if you refuse to leave you will be issued with a notice, and arrested if you refuse to comply with the conditions not to return.”

“Beat officers are completing high visibility patrols around the area to prevent recurrence and for community reassurance.”
