A rugby league legend and charity fundraiser has kicked off day 6 of his ultramarathon challenge in Northampton this morning.

The route heads north towards Leicester with the Extra Mile taking place at Saffron Lane Athletics Track on the way to Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, the home of Leicester Tigers.

Called Running Home for Christmas, his team is visiting seven regions of the United Kingdom, with the aim each day to run distances in excess of 50 km, broken down into seven kilometre blocks

He started the challenge on Sunday 1st December, and has covered routes in Liverpool, Bristol, Belfast, Glasgow and East Yorkshire.

Tomorrow on the final day he is set to be running from Old Trafford, the scene where Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow wrote their names in the history books of Rugby League to Manchester City Centre before the Extra Mile takes place at the Etihad Stadium running track.

The ex-Leeds Rhinos player is running in memory of friend and team-mate Rob Burrow, who died of MND in June.

Sinfield's seven in seven challenge, in recognition of Burrow's shirt number, has already raised more than £526,000 of a £777,777 target.

Leeds Rhinos say as well as Rob Burrow, today the team will be remembering former Hull FC player Adam Maher, who died aged 47 in 2020, after a battle with motor neurone disease.

The Australian second-rower made 100 appearances for the Black and Whites between 2000 and 2003, scoring 25 tries.
