Two men have been jailed for combined total of over a decade, for their roles in a stabbing at a Chesterfield pub almost two years ago.

31 year old Jordan Basnett, of Butterton Drive, and 41 year old David Davies, of no fized address, became involved in a dispute with another man in the garden of the Woodside pub on Ashgate Road on April 13 2023.

Basnett headbutted the victim before Davies stabbed him multiple times with a Stanley knife.

The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained a slash wound to his face, a stab wound to his lower abdomen, and a stab wound to his upper back.

He required extensive treatment at the Northern General Hospital for life threatening injuries.

He has been left with life changing scarring to his face.

Basnett admitted wounding with intent and was jailed for five years at Derby Crown Court last week.

Davies admitted wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place and was jailed for five years and 10 months.

Two other men, 54 year old Adrian Cherry of Firvale Road in Walton and 52 year old Alan Turner of Oakamoor Close in Holme Hall, were sentenced for helping the pair in the aftermath of the attack by hiding the knife and driving them away.

Both admitted to assisting an offender and were handed six month suspended sentences.

Cherry will complete unpaid work, while Turner will serve a three month curfew.

Detective Constable Sullivan, of Derbyshire Police, said:

“Were it not for the care and expertise of the medical staff at Northern General Hospital, the injuries which Davies and Basnett inflicted on the victim could easily have been fatal.

“The pair showed complete disregard for the seriousness of this attack and no remorse.

“This has been a long and protracted investigation, and I would like to thank the staff at the Woodside pub who have assisted us with enquiries throughout to ensure that these men are not free to socialise and wreak havoc in our communities.”
