An investigation is continuing after roads were closed and businesses were evacuated in Loughborough town centre yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 11 February).

A man has been arrested following an incident in Baxter Gate.

The 29-year-old, who remains in custody, was arrested last night on suspicion of communicating information regarding a noxious substance - hoax and sending a letter/communication/article conveying an indecent/offensive message.

Emergency services were called to a restaurant shortly after 1pm following a report a potentially hazardous substance had been found inside. It was also reported a phone call had been made to the business telling staff they must evacuate the premises.

Following initial testing, the substance was believed to be salt.
