A man's been jailed for 14 years after stabbing his partner in the eye during a frenzied attack.
Peter Krok attacked Neil Swain in Fleet Street in Normanton in December last year.
The 21-year-old started slashing and stabbing the victim’s face – with the first blow puncturing Mr Swain’s eyeball.
He then struck him with an ashtray before fleeing the property.
The attack was so severe that despite the best efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, Mr Swain’s injured eye could not be saved.
Following the incident, Krok then went on the run for three weeks. He was finally arrested on 8th January this year and was charged with attempted murder.
Krok, of Glengary Way, denied the charge but was found guilty after a trial at Derby Crown Court in July.
The 21-year-old appeared at the same court on Friday 15th November for sentencing when he was jailed for 14 years and told he would have to serve at least two thirds of the sentence behind bars.
Detective Constable Emma Archer, who led the investigation, said:
“Peter Krok launched a frenzied attack on someone who trusted him completely.
“The victim’s injuries were extremely serious and it is only by chance that he was not killed that day. The longer-term impact on Mr Swain cannot be understated.
“The sentence imposed today shows that this offence has been taken very seriously and Krok must now face a substantial amount of time behind bars. I hope that the conclusion of this case will now allow the victim to find some closure.”
