Former Weymouth Bowl site will be demolished
A temporary car park will go in its place, after Dorset Council approval
Weymouth's former bowling alley is be to torn down.
Dorset Councillors have today (Thursday 18th April) unanimously voted to demolish what was Weymouth Bowl in St Nicholas Street.
The site will become a temporary car park while the authority decides what to do with it.
The £400,000 price tag for the redevelopment is being paid for by the Levelling Up Fund.
It's part of the £19.5 million grant awarded in January 2023, to redevelopment the Weymouth Waterside area.
Dorset Council have said:
"Weymouth Bowl is one of several key areas in the town selected for development, including the site at North Quay where the former Weymouth and Portland Borough Council offices stood, the peninsula, the piece of land currently used as car parking beyond the Pavilion and land to the west of the marina."
Demolition is expected to begin later this year.
