There's a chance to ask Dorset Police and BCP Council tonight (Wednesday 5th June) about what measures they're taking to keep us safe this summer.

They're holding a Facebook Live event for people to pose questions and hear the latest from local authorities.

It's in an effort to reassure the public following the murder of Amie Gray in a stabbing incident at Durley Chine.

The social media event's taking place between 6.00 and 7.00pm, on the Dorset Police, BCP Council and the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner's Facebook pages.

People without an FB account can also watch on the Dorset Police YouTube channel, but won't be able to ask live questions or comment directly.

It's being held online to give the greatest number of people the opportunity to join in, with a recording available for those who can’t watch it live.

Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey, BCP Commander, said:

“Our communities have been understandably shocked by what happened in Bournemouth and the thoughts of everyone are with the loved ones of Amie Gray and the injured woman. Our investigation is continuing and we will provide updates as and when we have them.

“During this Facebook LIVE event we’ll be talking about how we’re continuing to work together as a partnership to ensure we can meet the increased demands on our services over the summer so Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole can be a safe place to live and visit. We will also be able to talk about the joint operations we will be running to increase our visibility to the public and answer any questions you may have during the session.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick said:

“I fully recognise that following the recent tragic incident in Bournemouth concerns about safety have been heightened. The incident sent shockwaves across the area and my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Amie Gray and the woman who was seriously injured. It is imperative that residents and communities have the opportunity to express their concerns and be heard by all of the relevant agencies responsible for community safety in the BCP area.

“Keeping the public safe is of the utmost importance and I hope this event will answer some of the questions the public have, provide some vital reassurance around the work taking place by all partners across BCP, and update residents on the crucial next steps.

“I know how important it is to feel safe where you live and work, and I want to assure you I take your views extremely seriously. Listening to your concerns is just one of the steps being taken as we all continue the relentless work to reduce violence and ensure Dorset is a safe place.”

Sophie Sajic, Head of Public Protection at BCP Council, said:

“We know the impact the tragic incident has had on the local community and the thoughts of everyone are with the family and friends of Amie Gray and the injured woman.

“We would like to reassure the public that we continue to work closely with Dorset Police with an enhanced high visibility CSAS presence in Bournemouth town centre. Facebook LIVE is an opportunity for us to listen to the concerns of local people and to provide reassure of the work we are continuing to do alongside Dorset Police this summer to ensure Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is area that everyone can enjoy safely.”
