A Bridport pub's been named as the best in West Dorset for cider.

The Woodman Inn on South Street's taken the title, awarded by the West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) group.

It's the second time the pub's won the award, recognising its range of ciders, from local producers like Burrow Hill, Dorset Nectar, Isaacs from Beaminster and Twisted.

Licensee Darren Moore said:

“It’s amazing! We didn’t expect it at all. A huge thanks to CAMRA and to all the producers we use. It’s a shame duty is still 40p per litre if you produce more than 7,000 litres which is quite shocking and needs to be campaigned against. Cider is the lifeblood of the southwest and what everyone visiting wants.”

The Woodman will now go up against other pubs for the regional title

West Dorset CAMRA Chairman Bruce Mead said:

“It was a real pleasure to present Darren the licensee of the Woodman his certificate for West Dorset CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year. The pub serves an excellent range served in great condition. They complement the changing ale selection and makes the Woodman a must visit pub when in Bridport."

The pub now goes through to the Wessex regional Cider Pub of the Year competition.
