Warning after man pretends to be police officer in Carlisle

He called up his victim and then demanded money

Police have issued a warning in Cumbria, after a man pretended to be a police officer.

A fraud investigation has now been launched by Cumbria Police.

Officers say a person in Carlisle received a call earlier this week, and demanded the person on the phone gave him money.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested.

"Police are urging people to be on their guard against phone fraudsters.

"The warning follows an incident in Carlisle where a person has received a call from a person pretending to be a police officer to try and gain money.

"The most recent reported incident occurred yesterday (6 September). An investigation is underway, and police have arrested a 51-year-old man from Carlisle on suspicion of fraud. He remains in police custody."

Officers have now issued a reminder for people to be vigilant, and are asking us to check who we are speaking to if we are in any doubt.

People who are uncertain should contact 101 to confirm the caller's identity.
