Man charged following fire in Carlisle

A man has been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with a property fire yesterday in Denton Holme, Carlisle.

James McGlinchey, 60, appeared before magistrates in Carlisle today after being charged by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a fire in Denton Street yesterday, with an investigation launched into the circumstances.

McGlinchey, of Denton Street, Carlisle, faces two charges – arson with intent to endanger life; arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The case was heard at the magistrates' court in Carlisle this morning ahead of a pre trial plea hearing at Carlisle Crown Court next month.
