Two people have appeared in court over murder of baby in Rugby

A 26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman have been charged

A man and a woman have appeared at Warwick Crown Court today (Monday 13 January) charged with the murder of a 13-month-old girl.

At 4.37am on Tuesday (7 January) police received a report of a baby in cardiac arrest at a house in the New Bilton area of the town.

The girl died in hospital the same day.

The 26-year man and 24-year-old woman, both from Rugby, have been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

The man was also charged with possession of indecent images.

The two will next appear at Warwick Crown Court on 14 February.

At the hearing a reporting restriction was put in place preventing the publication of anything that could identify the defendants, the victim and others linked to the case.
