The parents of Keaton Slater held a drop-in event, with Coventry North West MP Taiwo Owatemi, to gather support for their petition ‘Keaton’s Limit: Road safety on Radford Road.’

The petition was held in response to the tragic loss of their son on Radford Road, Coventry, last summer.

Many members of the community wore sky blue to show their support for Clint and Louise Slater, who's son Keaton was a keen footballer and fan of Coventry City.

At the session members of the public heard from both the Slaters and Taiwo about the need for improved road safety measures in the area.

The petition that they are trying to raise support for was launched in December 2024 and aims to tackle critical road safety concerns on Radford Road, where 12-year-old Keaton was tragically killed last year.

The measures proposed within the petition include: enhanced pedestrian crossings, lower speed limits, staggered traffic lights and stronger traffic enforcement.

We spoke with Keaton's mum, Louise Slater, on the importance of the petition.

Louise said: "When my son passed away we were told safety measurements were going to be put in place and nothing has happened.

"People are still getting hurt every day.

"I don't want another family to go through this nightmare, so if we see greater measures that would be amazing."

MP Taiwo Owatemi told us why she is supporting the petition and her hopes for road safety in Coventry.

Taiwo said: ""The last eight months have been incredibly difficult for Louis and Clint Slater.

"Last year I organised a meeting between the Slaters and the Lord Mayor in order to understand the changes that the Slaters wanted to see to make the roads safer in our community.

"Together, we launched a petition to Coventry City Council including their proposals and if Coventry residents want to show their support for the Slaters, I know they would be appreciative of anyone who can take the time to sign the petition."
