School Streets programme expanding in Coventry
More schools are joining the safety scheme in 2026
Coventry’s School Streets programme will be expanded, with more schools set to benefit.
It launched in September 2024 around Ravensdale, Southfields, Stanton Bridge, and Cardinal Wiseman schools, to reduce congestion, encourage walking and cycling and create a safer journey for children and families.
These sites will now become permanent following a trial.
Three new School Streets will be introduced in April 2026, around Holbrook Primary School, Limbrick Wood Primary School and Aldermoor Farm Primary School.
Consultation for these sites will begin later this year, with final plans expected by the end of 2025.
Councillor Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, said:
“Our School Streets initiative is making a real difference to families across Coventry.
“We’ve seen safer, healthier school environments, thanks to fewer cars and more children walking, cycling, or wheeling. With phase two sites now set to become permanent and phase three on the way, we’re committed to doing all we can to create safer, calmer streets for all.”
