Police out in Coventry cracking down on dangerous drivers
Officers, along with police dogs and drones, are taking part in a day of road safety action
Police are out in force across Coventry today (26/11) as part of a major operation to crack down on dangerous and uninsured drivers.
Officers, along with police dogs and drones, are taking part in a day of road safety action, in Coventry, as well as Solihull, Birmingham, the Black Country and Wolverhampton, targeting speeding and drink or drug driving.
The push is part of Operation Advance, which aims to make roads safer and reach zero deaths or serious injuries by the year 2040.
West Midlands Police's Road Harm Prevention Team and Commercial Vehicle Unit will be joined by partners as they carry out Multi-Agency Road Safety Operations (MARSO).
Their road crime and road policing teams will be carrying out operations targeting drivers who commit Fatal 4 offences including speeding and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
The Motor Insurance Bureau will be working alongside units in hotspot areas targeting uninsured drivers and officers will be carrying out road safety awareness outside schools and taxi operations.
Chief Superintendent Sarah Burton who oversees the Operations Unit, said: “Today is about showing our commitment to road safety and working together with our partners, reducing the number of deaths and serious injury on our roads.
“Our focus remains on targeting motorists who are a risk to our roads and those who commit Fatal 4 offences, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and putting lives at risk.
“We are committed to making our roads safer alongside our partners and the community.”
