An all-new, 24-hour police base has been secured for officers in Coventry.

Canley police base, south-west of the city, has been noted as no longer fit-for-purpose, with neighbourhood and response teams set to relocate to a new and improved headquarters on Bow Court, just 700 yards away.

The current police building on Fletchamstead Way will now be sold, with PCC Simon Foster committed to ensuring that any decision on a future sale will deliver value to the community and the local area, and that the money raised, will be reinvested to improve front-line policing in Coventry.

PCC Simon Foster said: “I am pleased to announce that I am delivering on my commitment that Canley will retain a police base. It will ensure officers remain within the community they serve, which is exactly where they need to be.

“Canley will continue to have a reassuring, strong and visible West Midlands Police presence, that will be committed and dedicated to preventing and tackling crime and to keeping people, families, businesses and the local community, safe and secure.”

Chief Superintendent Paul Drover, who oversees policing in Coventry, added: “Officers will be relocating to a newer base in the area which will support local neighbourhood officers, response teams and a pro-active unit. The move will see further investment in technology and equipment while ensuring a police presence for local communities.”
