Stine’s Home from Home is a free accommodation facility for brain tumour patients and their family’s undergoing treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The new facility offers families respite during a challenging time, just a short walk from the hospital.

The Home from Home facility helps families to stay close together during critical moments of treatment, easing the strain of travel and accommodation costs.

The Giles’ Trust Brain Tumour Fund was established in 2015 by former England cricketer Ashley Giles MBE and his wife, Stine, after she was diagnosed with multiple brain tumours.

Stine shared why the accommodation is so important to her at the opening today: ‘Stine’s Home from Home means a lot to me and makes me emotional.

‘I was first diagnosed with a brain tumour I had a very young family; my daughter was 4 and my son was 6.

‘Having a home like this to stay with my husband and our children so close to the hospital would have meant a lot to me and my family.’

Many brain tumour patients travel across the West Midlands, and even nationwide, to receive specialized care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Will Garratt, Lead Neuro Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at QE said the new accommodation will give families a sense of normality during a challenging time: ‘Stine’s Home from Home makes a huge difference to our patients.

‘Having somewhere for patients and their relatives to stay before and after surgery or during radiotherapy treatment massively helps with recovery.

‘It really gives them peace of mind knowing their loved ones are close by and is a lifeline during such a difficult time.’
