A critical incident's been stood down by South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust was facing serious pressure last week, which they put partly down to the rise in flu cases and drop in temperatures.

Varadarajan Baskar, Chief Medical Officer said: "We are out of critical incident but pressures across our hospitals and community services remain extremely high, and we are still making difficult decisions to respond to these challenges and prioritising as many discharges as possible.

"The public will be aware of current pressures the NHS are facing this winter and we ask for support to help us through what is an extremely difficult and challenging period.

"To enable us to care for the people that need us the most please ensure you are choosing the right service for your needs. Please use 111 online as the first port of call, access GP and pharmacy services and continue to only use 999 if it is a life-threatening emergency.

"Our services are designed to treat the acute phase of illness or injury, not for recovery and recuperation. Please help us get your relative home by stocking up on essentials such as medicine, food and water, ensure their house is warm, bring clean, comfortable clothing and provide transport. By helping us get your relative home, a bed becomes available for someone that really needs it.

"If you require urgent medical attention, please do not delay seeking help."
