Coventry man jailed for assault on taxi driver
He's been sentenced to over six years.
A man has been jailed after a violent assault on a taxi driver in Coventry.
Artur Nowostawski has been jailed for six years and nine months after he attacked a taxi driver earlier this year.
On 29 April, Nowostawski was picked up by a taxi from Coventry Railway Station, before driving towards Bennetts Road South.
Just before the end of the journey, Nowostawski attacked the driver with a knife, hitting him in the neck and chest a number of times and demanding money.
Following the assault, officers issued a wanted appeal for the 40-year-old and he was arrested a day later as a result of the appeal.
He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon at Warwick Crown Court, and on 6 August, he was jailed.
DC Jack Phillips from Coventry CID, said: "This was an unprovoked and sustained assault which left the victim with serious injuries.
"They were lucky not to be more seriously hurt, and are now thankfully on the road to recovery.
"This case took quick work from the officers to identify Nowostawski and arrest him in order to bring this case to court, and I'm glad he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time."
