A Coventry man who persistently harassed his neighbours has been jailed for six months.

Ranjit Sadra would knock on doors at 3am asking for money and would aggressively beg in the streets around Cheylesmore.

He would also approach people in the street and tell them a heart-breaking and completely false story about having family members in hospital and needing money to get there.

Having been given £20 by one of his victims, Sadra turned up at their address demanding even more money, saying he had been to hospital and needed more money to be able to go back.

When questioned by officers, Sadra said he needed the money to buy drugs and had intended to pay the money back to the victim.

Now, the 45-year-old has been jailed for six weeks after being convicted of harassment.

In addition to the six week sentence, Sadra's offending also triggers a suspended sentence for similar offences in 2023.

This means he will actually serve six months in prison.
