Coventry charity highlights support for local unpaid carers

The Carers Trust Heart of England held an event for carers seeking support in Coventry and Warwickshire

A charity in Coventry and Warwickshire is raising awareness on the local services available for unpaid carers.

Carers Connect event at Coventry Cathedral invited carers, alongside the wider community, to engage with a variety of local services and interactive activities.

Jodie Cotterrell, who works for the charity, explained how the trust works to support carers who feel unseen in Coventry and Warwickshire.

She said: “We are here to offer respite.

“We know of the challenges carers are facing and we want to make sure we are supporting them with their education, finances and home environment.”

A total of 30 organisations came together to provide advice and support for Coventry and Warwickshire’s unseen carers.

Attendees could connect with organisations such as Coventry City Council and Voluntary Action Coventry to get advice on energy savings, mental health support and caring responsibilities.

The Heart of England Carers Trust team were also on hand to explain their services for carers and their loved ones.

Jodie continued to say what types of care people provide their loved ones on a day-to-day basis in Coventry and Warwickshire.

She said: “You could be a young person looking after someone with a physical disability, looking after a sibling with SEND needs or caring for someone dealing with substance misuse in the family.

“The same goes for adult carers too.”
