Stithians Show kicks off today
It's been going since all the way back in 1834 - and is the biggest one-day agricultural show in the county
Between 15 and 18 thousand people are expected to attend the biggest one-day agricultural show in Cornwall - which kicks off today.
It's been going since all the way back in 1834 - and started as a challenge between local parishioners over the standards and quality of produce and livestock .
Stithians Show will host horses, sheep, pigs and cattle shows, and music and entertainment for all ages.
However, what a day for it to happen - as the region is currently under a yellow Met Office warning for rain.
On social media, the Kernow Weather team say the weather 'isn't going to be very nice' for this year's event.
They said: "From the early morning outbreaks of rain are expected to push up from Southerly direction. This looks heavy and torrential at times with the risk of the odd rumble of thunder thrown in. Temperatures throughout the course of the day average around 15°C along with variable Southeasterly winds light with speeds of between 0-20mph.
"The rain continues during the afternoon with some heavy pulses, but also, a few bright spells may appear at times. We could also see mist and fog creep in due to humidity levels sitting between 95-100% pollen levels and UV levels being moderate.
"The winds vary northwesterly, then southwesterly during the afternoon but still staying quite light with speeds of between 5-20mph.
"Afternoon temperatures won't reach any higher than 16°C, so it will feel a little muggy also
"It would be wise to wear wellies and plenty of waterproof clothing if you are attending the show. Have a great day despite the weather."
There's all sorts happening at this year's event - as the 190-year tradition continues today.
That includes:
- A number of competitions - ranging from art, craft and cookery to a number of animal contests - which organisers call a 'fundamental aspect' of the show
- A countryside area with an exhibition ring - including displays of woodturning, basketry, saddlery, and bees
- A number of stages across the event showcasing local talent
- Steam vehicles
- A sunflower trail
- A stall by the Women's Institute
Nigel Vague, Chainman of the Showground said: "We've got all of the usual stuff - cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, to name a few - but one thing we are excited about this year is our pig section.
"I know that there's a pig section at the Royal Cornwall Show - but I don't think there are any other shows that feature pigs.
"That's our aim for the show, though, to make it bigger and better.
"You've got to mix it up a bit, or else it just becomes 'samey' right? But it's going to be major - traditionally we welcome up to 18,000 people and we've got plenty of cover if it does end up being a rainy one'".
