A one-year-old child has now died following a road traffic collision in Mullion earlier this week.

Officers were called to the B3296 Meaver Road at around 8.40am on Monday 14 October to reports of collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a double decker school bus.

The two occupants of the Vauxhall – a local woman in her 30s and a male child – sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Both have now tragically passed away in hospital. The next of kin is aware.

Twenty seven children on the school bus sustained minor injuries and one child from the bus sustained serious injuries but these are not considered life-threatening.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst investigations took place.

Sergeant Phil Brown from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team said: “We are deeply saddened that a woman and child have now died following the collision in Mullion earlier this week.

“It is impossible to put into words the grief those close to them are feeling right now.

“Our thoughts continue to be with everybody involved as we continue to work with the school and partners to make sure everybody receives the support they require following this tragic collision.”

The family wish for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time as they come to terms with their loss.
