The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is announcing the launch of the new National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

It is one of only 15 selected across England and is backed by a £3.5 million investment over seven years from the National Institute for Health and Care Research.

The new CRDC represents the single biggest commitment to research delivery in Cornwall’s history. The centre is expected to double the number of research opportunities available locally, placing Cornwall at the forefront of pioneering healthcare breakthroughs.

Bianca Mills, Head of Research and Development, RCHT said:

"This is a defining moment for healthcare in Cornwall. Our new CRDC opens the door to world-class clinical trials right on our doorstep, trials that were once only accessible in major urban centres. What makes this truly transformative is the collective commitment from across our entire health and care system, spanning acute, community, mental health, primary care, and the voluntary sector.

"It’s this joined-up approach that will ensure research reaches right into the heart of our communities, offering real opportunities for people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to be part of the future of medicine."

The event will spotlight the 26 partners collaborating on this ambitious venture, showcasing Cornwall’s ability to deliver integrated, community-focused, and commercially attractive research on a national scale.
