The family of a man who was stabbed to death outside a Bodmin night club two years ago say progress has been made with roll-outs of bleed kits across Cornwall.

Michael Riddiough-Allen, 34, was killed and several others were injured on this day, in the early hours on 30 April 2023.

A vigil with his friends and family has been held at 3am in his memory.

His family said: "Michael was known as a "gentle giant," a "man of exceptional qualities," a "hero," and the "best big baby brother." His loss devastated his loved ones and left a community in shock."

The family set up MIKES Trust following the fatal incident, to raise awareness of knife crime, delivering free education programs to hundreds of children across the county, funding initiatives to support young people, and contributing funding to youth organisations.

Kevin Allen, Michael's Dad, said: "On the night Mike died there were three other people seriously enough injured to require medical attention. A bleed control kit could be there that much quicker."

270 bleed control kits are being rolled out in Duchy Defibrillators across Cornwall, as a result of collaboration work between Mark Fuszard and FLEET, Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust, and Bleed Control Cornwall.

MIKES Trust have been encouraging people to donate and say more bleed kits are needed.

Kevin Allen added: "It would be great to have them in schools for all sorts of injuries that can occur in schools where a bleed control kit certainly would help. Equally that chimes really well with us wanting to do our educational piece about going in to schools.

"Becky, my daughter and Michael's sister leads on this as an ex-teacher and has done many assemblies and youth group talks, partly our experience and the data driven impact of knife crime. Off the back of schools having bleed control kits, we want to offer our services in either providing an educational pack, online learning for key staff members and/or us going into the school ourselves and doing that sort of exercise.

"We don't want kids to carry knives or injuries to occur because of them."
