Locals are fighting back against the final bank in Wadebridge set to close next year.

The last bank branch in Wadebridge, Lloyds, will close on 17 February 2025.

It comes as 79% of their personal customers already use other ways of banking, such as mobile, internet or phone banking, as well as other branches.

Mike Trenouth, owner of Padstow Petrol Station, said: "By the nature of my business we process a lot of cash. I recently put something on Facebook and a lot of people, apart from myself, are immensely annoyed about this.

"It's also alienating, I feel, a lot of elderly customers."

After the Wadebridge branch closes, Lloyds will have a Community Banker visit the area, who will continue to offer face to face targeted support for as long as the community needs it.

Discussions will take place with local communities which locations would be appropriate for a Community Banker to set up in, and on which days.

It comes as a string of banks are closing this September including Lloyds and Halifax in Bodmin, and being replaced by a 'Banking Hub'.

Mike added: "It's impractical for many reasons for older people. They may not have family or relatives who are able to take them and it's just completely impractical for them."

A spokesperson from Lloyds said: "Mobile banking is more popular than ever with over 19 million customers choosing our app to manage their money. Alongside our app, customers can bank online, over the phone, at a Banking Hub, a Post Office or by speaking to one of our Community Bankers."
