As heavy winds and rain hit the Southwest it’s been revealed that emergency services across Cornwall dealt with more than 100 calls over the weekend.
Storm Éowyn and the remnants of the Spanish-named storm Herminia caused disruption, with a mini tornado reported in Quintrell Downs that damaged homes.
183 incidents were reported from Friday afternoon to Monday morning by the local Highways team. Around one hundred of those involved trees blocking the road.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service dealt with around 30 weather-related incidents over the weekend, including a small fire at a house that was struck by lightning. Crews also attended several incidents of flooding.
Local politicians have said they’re grateful to the emergency crews who worked across the weekend to help others.
“Teams from Cormac, Cornwall Council and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service have cleared roads, dealt with flooding, responded to dangerous structures and trees and provided advice and support to households who lost power,” said Kate Kennally, Chef Executive of Cornwall Council.
“We are very grateful to all of our staff, and our colleagues in other emergency services, who are working to keep us safe.”
