Farmers warned watch out for overhead power lines when operating machinery
National Grid say one accident of this type is reported every day.
Farmers are being warned to watch out for overhead power lines when operating heavy machinery in Cornwall.
National Grid – the electricity operator for the South West – says at least one agricultural accident involving overhead lines is reported every day in the UK.
They say if contact is made with a power line, farmers should stay in the cab and try to drive clear.
If that is not possible, phone 105 and only leave the machine in an emergency.
Matt Turner, from National Grid, says: "There are some simple steps you can take to make sure you're working safely. One really vital one is to make sure you know the maximum reach and height of any vehicle you're operating. And also make sure you're remaining really vigilant, even when using GPS, which is quite common in farming machinery now."
