Bird flu has been found in Cornwall.

The council has confirmed the case in a wild Herring Gull collected from Newquay earlier this month.

In a statement, the authority said: "Cornwall Council has received a notification of a positive test result of Bird Flu (Avian Influenza) in a wild Herring Gull collected from Newquay, near the centre of the town on 3rd March 2025.

"Please follow this Government advice about how to spot and report it in poultry or other captive birds.

"You can also report dead wild birds here.

"If you suspect bird flu in poultry or other captive birds, you must report it immediately by calling 03000 200 301.

"Please contact Cornwall Council for more information."
