Tributes are pouring in for a popular family theme park in Helston which has announced its sudden closure.

Flambards Theme Park have announced they will be shutting with immediate effect.

Memories are continuing to flood in online with locals and tourists saying they are 'heartbroken' and the theme park will be 'greatly missed'.

People have been sharing their stories of "fantastic days there with their children as they grew up" and another said it’s "always been a special place for her family".

Andrew George, MP for West Cornwall and St Ives, said: "It's been in existence for almost half a century it's almost staggering to think about it. It's been a feature in the lives of the local community for all that time.

"A lot of people have been very deeply integrated by it. This is a big shock and it's not something which a lot of people anticipated."

The statement from the owners said: "Over the years, Flambards has strived to evolve, overcoming numerous challenges to continue bringing joy to families and visitors from across the region.

"Unfortunately, this year saw the retirement of several older thrill rides, as the increasing difficulty of sourcing specialised parts and maintenance expertise became insurmountable.

"Additionally, the much-loved Victorian Village exhibition now requires extensive remedial work; it will remain closed while we investigate alternative options to preserve and honour this unique collection.

"Flambards has been a cherished destination for generations, and it is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell.

"To our loyal supporters and dedicated team, who have given their unwavering commitment through difficult times, we extend our sincerest gratitude."

While the theme park itself will no longer operate, Ferdi’s Funland, the indoor play centre, will re-open as a standalone attraction on November 17.

The closure will also not affect the Masked Ball on Saturday 9 November, which is still going ahead as planned.
