Five people had to be airlifted over the weekend after they were cut off by the incoming tide in Wheal Charlotte.

It happened on Saturday (March 22), with the St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team giving a 'big thank you' to the emergency services who attended - calling it 'excellent teamwork all round'.

Sharing details of the incident, the local Coastguard said: "Wheal Charlotte Tasked alongside H. M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team, St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat St Ives Lifeboat and Coastguard Helicopter 924 to persons cut off by the incoming tide.

"Lifeboat crews arrived on scene and located the casualties, standing by while awaiting the arrival of Helicopter 924.

"Coastguard rescue teams were positioned at the top of the cliffs near Wheal Charlotte, on standby for a potential cliff-top rescue.

"Teams also advised members of the public to stay well back from the cliff edge, and helped identify a safe landing site for the helicopter if required.

"The casualties were safely rescued by Helicopter 924 and airlifted to the top of the cliff, before being transported back to their vehicle at Chapel Porth.

"A big thank you to all attending agencies – excellent teamwork all round.

"We understand that rescues naturally draw attention, but we kindly remind everyone that the downdraft from the Coastguard helicopter can be incredibly powerful, especially near cliff edges. For your safety, please keep a safe distance from the edge."
