Fire service warning over increased calls across Cornwall
There have been several wildfires in the last week alone as the warm weather continues
Cornwall Fire and Rescue says it's receiving an increased amount of calls about wildfires and nuisance burning.
There have been several wildfires in the last week alone as the warm weather continues.
The service is asking people to think of the potential impacts on the environment and its firefighters.
In a statement, officers said: "Further to previous requests from Cornwall Fire Rescue & Community Safety Service (CFRCSS), it is evident that we are receiving an increased amount of calls involving domestic burning, wildfires and/or nuisance burning.
"The effects of these calls are continuing to impact on Fire Crews and Critical Control, placing unnecessary strain on an already stretched resources.
"Points to consider moving forward are very clear:
- Do you have to burn?
- Act responsibly as landowners and work with CFRS to mitigate wider risks
- Think of the potential impacts to the environment and wildlife around us, particularly at this time of year and with the prolonged dry weather
- Think of the impact on already stretched resources and all the unnecessary call outs to incidents of this nature
- Give consideration to the potential damage and fire spread to neighbouring properties and the potential dangers of risk to property and to life, whilst also exposing fire crews to increased risks with these incidents and unnecessary contact and travel
"We would like to encourage all residents to think carefully, remain vigilant and encourage the reporting of suspicious activity to the Devon & Cornwall Police."
