Dozens impacted by damaged telecoms line in Falmouth

Repair work has been underway after a number of telecommunications lines were damaged in Falmouth.

It impacted broadband and telephone services for around sixty people on Saturday night.

Police say a man in his 30s who was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage has now been charged.

They tell us: "Jarrod Westlake, aged 34, of no fixed abode, Falmouth, has been charged with criminal damage.

"He is due to appear at Bodmin Magistrates’ this morning 7 April."

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police yesterday (6 April) said: "Detectives are investigating report of damaged telecommunications lines in the Falmouth area, which occurred on Saturday.

"Officers were called at 7pm on 5 April where it was reported that lines had been damaged in the area of Church Street and surrounding area, affecting telecommunications lines to a number of people.

"Openreach are currently working to restore the power, and anyone impacted is asked to contact their local provider if needed.

"A local man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and is in police custody.

"Officers are conducting enquiries in the area and appealing for anyone with information which may assist, to contact police by 101 or via our website quote log 751 of 5 April."
