Thousands to gather in Helston for annual Flora Day celebrations

The tradition starts with the Early Morning Dance at 7am

Thousands are expected in Helston today for the annual Flora Day celebrations.

Crowds will be lining the streets for traditional dances, songs and town band music parading through the town centre.

The ancient festival of Flora Day is usually held on 8th May. A spring festival to celebrate the end of winter and mark the arrival of the new vitality and fertility with the trees and flowers bursting into life.

The houses and shops of the town are decorated with greenery and floral arrangements to express the spirit of renewal.

What happens during Flora Day?

7:00AM - The first "Early Morning Dance" begins at the Guildhall and continues up Meneage Street where dancers will go in and out of a number of premises

8:30AM — Hal-an-Tow

9:50AM — Over 1200 pupils from Helston’s four schools, dressed in white with headdresses and ties, will take part in the Childrens’ Dance

12 noon — The Midday Dance

5:00PM — Evening Dance
