Cornwall fire crews battle busy night across the Duchy

Crews were called to six incidents since just before 8pm last night (19 August)

It's been another busy 24 hours for firefighters across Cornwall.

Crews were called to six incidents since just before 8pm last night (19 August).

One saw teams tackle a building fire in Callington, and elsewhere, teams helped paramedics and police make a two separate crash scenes safe.

They received the following calls:

  • 19/08 19:53 - Crews from Tolvaddon attended a fire at Tickingmill involving Hedges and Gorse. The fire was extinguished using 1 Hosereel.
  • 19/08 20:30 - Crews from Mullion attended an RTC involving one car into a tree on Curry Cross Lanes. On arrival the vehicle was on its side and the casualty was already in the care of SWAST. Crews made the vehicle and area safe and left the incident in the care of the Police and ambulance.
  • 19/08 22:06 - Crews from St Columb attended a fire in a field at Winnards Perch which was an unattended bonfire. This was extinguished using 1 Hosereel Jet to prevent spread.
  • 19/08 23:37 - Crews from Penzance attended a small fire in woodland that was smouldering, They used 1 hosereel Jet to extinguish.
  • 20/08 00:49 - Crews from St Just attended an RTC in St Buryan with a vehicle on its side. The casualty had been released before arrival and crews administered first aid. The scene was made safe and the incident was left in the care of the Police and Ambulance.
  • 20/08 00:49 - Crews from Callington, Saltash and Liskeard attended, with an officer, a fire in a 2 storey building. The fire was located on the first floor and crews tackled the fire with 2 Crew wearing BA and 2 Hosereels.

It comes after it was revealed how, earlier this week, eight of nineteen fires in two days across Cornwall were accidentally started by sparks from steam engines.

The fire service have recently said that dry ground and gusty winds are making things more challenging.
