A "quick thinking" dog has saved her owners from a fire that broke out in their family home this morning (Thursday 30 May).

Crews from Wadebridge Community Fire Station and Delabole Community Fire Station were called to New Polzeath shortly after 6.00am.

On arrival they found an electric heater on fire within a cupboard.

Family pet Jessie woke her owners up as smoke filled the home, making sure they escaped unharmed.

Thanks her actions, the small fire was put out before any significant damage was done.

Wadebridge Community Fire Station said: "Jessie alerted her owners to a fire that had started in their family home this morning.

"With the family sound asleep, Jessie identified smoke filling the home and quickly roused them, ensuring they escaped unharmed.

"At 06:06, crews from Wadebridge Community Fire Station and Delabole Community Fire Station were mobilised to New Polzeath and located an electric heater on fire within a cupboard.

"Thanks to Jessie’s quick thinking and protective instincts, the small fire was promptly dealt with and contained to the cupboard of origin before any significant damage was done."
