A trip to the tip will have to be booked in advance for more people in Cornwall from this week.

A booking system is being introduced at four more Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

The trial will be extended to the recycling centres in Bude and Launceston from Friday (29 November), and St Austell and Bodmin (Lanivet) from 9 December.

Cornwall Council says the system is designed to reduce waiting times and improve road safety - it has already been introduced at Newquay, Saltash and St Erth HWRCs.

Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods said: "It’s quick and easy to book a slot and residents can select a time that works for them.

"More than 50,000 bookings have been made since we started the trial at Newquay, Saltash and St Erth, and more than half of those bookings were made on the day.

"The feedback we have received from people who have booked slots has been overwhelmingly positive. The booking system has dramatically reduced queues and waiting times, and improved road safety.

"We have seen such a positive impact that we have decided to extend the trial to four more HWRCs."

People can book a slot through Cornwall Council's website or by phone.
